Please Critique/Advise on my Jordan Itinerary!
I'm super excited to be going to Jordan for the first time in May - 24M/USA and planning to get the Jordan Pass. I'll be traveling alone and am planning to spend about 8 days there. My plan is to arrive in Amman and stay there maybe three nights to check out the city/surrounding area and then work my way south. I'm planning to rent a car for when I leave Amman (will not be driving in the city, just outside the city). I figured I'm planning to do a lot of things and wasn't sure if it would be easy enough to do it all with buses/public transport especially since I want to get to Petra really early when it opens. I'm not coming up with a strict itinerary because I want wiggle room for stuff, but this is a general idea of what I'm thinking of doing:
Days 1 - 3
Arrive around noon (flying in from Belgium)
Visit Jerash and Amman Citadel
Roman Theater
Iraq al Amir Castle
Um Qais
Temple of Hercules
Explore the city
(I won't have the car for these but I would assume the hostels or somewhere would have excursions to these types of things?)
Day 4
Bethany Beyond the Jordan (Baptism Site - I know it's not included in the JP)
Dead Sea - swim a bit and visit the area
Mt Nebo
Madaba - Archaeological Park, Burnt Palace, spend the night
Day 5
Drive down to Karak Castle
Dana Biosphere for hiking (thoughts on this?)
Drive down toward Petra and visit
Day 6
Petra - all day exploring the city and hiking around
Drive down toward Wadi Rum and spend the night in a desert camp
Day 7
Explore Wadi Rum and head towards Aqaba
Day 8
Aqaba - drop off car, explore the city and will take ferry to Egypt at night
