Highway 50 or I-80 through Nevada?
I'm going to be driving from Montana to San Jose, CA in late May. I'll be doing it in solo and have two days allocated for my drive. I wish I had more time to enjoy the drive but it is what it is.
I'm definitely going to stop in Elko, NV for my first night which is which is ~650 miles / ~10 hours.
The second day is up in the air. I have to get from Elko, NV to SJ. I have several options:
1. 80 all the way through Sacramento (~550 miles / ~8 hours)
2. Travel to Austin, NV then hop on 50 to Fernley, NV to get back on 80 to Sacramento (~9hrs / ~575 miles)
3. Travel to Austin, NV and take 50 all the way to Sacramento (~575 miles / ~10hrs)
So my question is: is the extra drive time worth option 2, or even option 3? I've never been to Nevada or Lake Tahoe before. Is 50 too desolate for a solo roadtripper? Any other tips?
Thanks in advance.
