Going to Costa Rica solo for the week of 4/16-4/24 for the first time during Semana Santa...can you help me get prepared?
Booked my flight before seeing it was Easter that Sunday and am trying to figure out a plan before booking lodging. I'm flying in and out of LIR and am staying from Tuesday through the following Wednesday 4/24. My initial thought is to travel around La Fortuna/Monteverde area from Tuesday through Sunday before heading to the beaches (possibly Tamarindo or Playa Hermosa) the remainder of the trip. I'm looking to experience a mix of hiking in the forests, seeing volcanoes, trying out local beer, and going to the beaches. I'm planning to stay in hostels but am willing to pay more for transportation given time constraints. My questions -
- Does that route seem to make sense given crowds and the timing of the holidays?
- Is 4 days sufficient/too much for the Fortuna/Monteverde area?
- What recommendations do you have for activities in those areas - or should I look into other areas?
- What is the best way to get around - will I be able to find taxis on Thursday through Sunday? Should I just rent a car through the whole week?
- What other things change (closures, laws, etc) during Semana Santa that I should prepare for?
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!
