65L backpack or suitcase for 10 days in Sweden?
I have a TETON Sports Explorer 4000 - yes, a cheap pack, but I've taken it backpacking many times and it still looks brand new.
I'm flying from Chicago to Stockholm. I'll arrive around 7am, and I might not be able to check into my Airbnb until the afternoon. So, right of the bat I will need to carry my luggage for a while.
After a couple nights, I'll be renting a car to do a little road trip to various towns - 3 different Airbnbs. Luggage shouldn't be an issue during that time, as I'll have a car and don't plan to hike out away from it.
I'll get back to Stockholm and fly to Kiruna. I'm staying in ICEHOTEL one night and an Airbnb the next. Not sure what I'm doing yet. I might want until I get there to decide. I might explore Kiruna a bit and take a train to Narvik, Norway for the afternoon. Or I might end up renting snowshoes and doing an easy hike. Maybe I can leave my luggage at the hotel/Airbnb, or I might have to carry it with me.
Even if I take the large pack, I'll have a small carry-on day pack that I could use in the case I can leave the large pack in a room (I'll probably have some kind of pack on me at all times with snacks, phone charger, etc.). I don't own a small pack that will fit easily inside the large pack. So, I'll need to buy one soon.
With all the uncertainty, I'm thinking the large pack is probably the way to go. But, I'm sure I would have a good time even if I was limited by a suitcase - maybe the benefits outweigh the limitations.
I've never traveled with only a large backpack. I took a solo trip to Japan with a suitcase, but I left it at a friend's house while I took my carry-on backpack on 3-day train adventure.
Any suggestions or tips would be appreciated!
Edit: The trip is the end of March. I don't expect it will be unbearably cold, even up north, but I'm not really sure.
