Trans woman moving from Austin to Portland; looking for safe & cheaper alternatives to hotels and other general tips :)

Morning, everyone!

As the title says, I'm a 28 year old trans woman who will be packing up her car and moving from Austin, TX to Portland, OR around the end of this month. After looking through a few potential routes, I'm leaning towards one that would take me through New Mexico, Utah, southern Idaho and then Oregon. If you have suggestions for a better one, though, I'm all ears. Overall, I'm hoping to make the trip in 3 days or so.

I'm hoping to keep costs low along the way so I was wondering if you all have tips on where I could spend a night without having to potentially spend $100+ dollars? The safer, the better, since I'm traveling solo and don't want to unintentionally put myself at risk. Someone mentioned car camping, which sounds great except for the whole traveling in the middle of winter thing. Thank goodness I have plenty of blankets.

This will be the first time I've left my home state and traveled since beginning my transition so any and all tips on how to stay safe while soaking everything in are more than welcome. Being able to stop and see a few sights along the way would be lovely too since I've never ventured further west than Colorado and am very, very excited to finally see this part of the country. What I've seen of it in pictures and videos is breathtaking and I can't wait to see it all in person.

Thanks, everyone! Cheers!!
