Short Stay in Seoul

Hi All,

I've never traveled abroad solo before. I have a grad school trip to Shanghai and Hong Kong in late May. Because they are fairly close to South Korea, I figured I would stop by Seoul at the end of the trip.

My question is a bit specific I guess. One of my classmates will be going to Seoul as well, however I am planning on going a day earlier (he's planning on going on a Sunday morning, and leaving Monday night - that's a bit too crammed for me.) I was thinking I'd go there on Saturday and leave at the same time as him. So I'd effectively be alone for a day.

I guess my main question is how "accessible" is Seoul for a foreigner alone?

I went to Japan with friends last year, and there were numerous occasions where I'd go off on my own for half a day in Tokyo and I didn't have any issues. One of my buddies said Seoul isn't as accessible and I would have more difficulty - not sure how accurate he is.

As far as plans go, I won't be trying to cram in everything. I will probably pick a couple things I'd really want to see to check out. Also once my classmate arrives, if we have different things we want to see it's entirely possible I'll be on my own the entire time.
