Need help finding an idyllic city in Italy for 1 month

Hi, nice to meet you guys in this community! I was recently trying to book a monthlong trip somewhere in Italy to improve my Italian and am getting stuck on choosing a location. Any time between April and August is okay. A friend who lives in Naples recommended Rome, Florence, and Bologna. However, after thoroughly browsing those cities online, none of them sound too ideal. Rome seems good for a couple of weekend trips, Florence is too fashiony/modern, and Bologna is supposedly rather industrial. I've been to Venice, Verona, and Garda See often, so not those places!

I'm from New York so I don't want a big city (after all, what can compare?). I was thinking something Boston-sized, maybe ~600k people or less. Even a small town would be fine. Size doesn't matter too much (that's what she said?), but I want to be somewhere: a) where I don't need a car to get around b) with relatively warm weather c) where I can easily take a train to a bigger city for a dose of culture/museums/etc. I'm 30 years old/female/an old soul, I always have a novel on me so I'm not afraid of getting bored, and I want to just absorb the culture and improve my speaking through walking around and meeting people rather than taking boring language classes. My Italian is already pretty decent; basically I'm just seeking to wander about during the daytime (stroll through town, bike ride, run, take in the architecture, maybe work a bit at a cafe) and take it easy. Rome seems overwhelming but maybe it's not as intense as I imagine it...I like being outside and I do appreciate art history; however, I have almost 0 interest in pure history and absolutely 0 interest in Italian food. The ideal situation would be somewhere warm, pretty, where I could spend a nice chunk of the day outside while having some sort of connection to civilization.

Maybe a month in one place is too long and 2 weeks in 2 different cities would be better--also an option. Nothing is set in stone, I was just inspired after watching the super predictable yet nevertheless cute Letters to Juliet and could use a change of scenery.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thank you!!
