Looking for stuff to do on a spring break road trip from Chapel Hill, NC to Chattanooga, TN

3 of my friends and I are planning on going on a road trip over spring break in 2.5 weeks. We're looking to spend about a week gone. Currently our plan involves first driving to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge and hiking the Great Smoky Mountains and doing fun activities in Pigeon Forge like gokarting. Then we're going to stay in Chattanooga for a bit and go to Rock City, Ruby Falls, Lookout Mountain, etc. We're working on brainstorming activities and making a plan right now.

I'm interested in your thoughts on additional places/activities we could do. I'm open to driving longer to visit more cool places or scenic routes. We are poor college students though, so the budget is low. We'll probably be staying in AirBNBs. Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.
