Long Island, NY -> Louisville KY, Louisville, KY -> Ann Arbor, MI, Ann Arbor, MI -> Long Island, NY
Planning a full week off in May (25th) to June 1st
Basically planning on leaving NY Saturday (taking I-78, I-81, I-68, I-79, I-64) , arrive in KY , stay for 4 days, leave Weds morning, get into MI (taking I-75 up), stay until Saturday, then leave and head back to NY (taking I-90, I-480, I-80 back)
Okay! So I've only went on a road trip once, that was a straight drive from NY to north NC. And that was wholly unprepared and a huge learning experience (WOW you can lose a lot of time if you're not quick at rest stops)
I have a couple of questions!
1- What's the best time to leave? I'm thinking of leaving NY very early Saturday morning, and leaving Ann Arbor mid day Saturday. Anyone have any idea on what the traffic would be like?
2- Is this enough time for a road trip like this?
3- PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me your experience if you drove similar before. I am also DYING to know of any places along this route of particular interest. I might even pop into Rock N Roll Hall of fame in cleveland on the way back.. if they're open.
4- Places I should see in Ann Arbor and Louisvile? Things to do?
5- Is it worth it to rent a car?
6- What's I-78, I-81, I-68, I-79, I-64 like? Worried that it's gonna suck driving because of the mountains. You tell me.
7- Should I rest somewhere along the 12 hour trip to KY? Is it possible to do it all in one shot?
