Does anybody know what happened to Sant Jordi Mambo Tango in Barcelona?
I've been meaning to post this for about 6 months...
On my first solo trip in early 2014 I stayed there and it was incredible. Met so many good friends, the staff were friendly, it had an amazing pub crawl, good location, so busy... I ended up returning there on 2 further occasions, the last time being in 2015, and it was just as good each time.
Anyway, on my trip last summer I returned to Barcelona and was hoping to stay there again, and while the hostel still exists, it is no longer apart of the Sant Jordi chain (which is still huge and has many hostels in the city) and is simply just going by Mambo Tango now. Its ratings had fallen through the floor online, I remember it was a 9.8 or a 9.6 or something on Hostelworld when I used to stay there, in the summer when I was looking to book again it was in the 7's, so I avoided it just to not have those memories dampened (it's back up to 8.9 as of writing).
I walked past it just out of curiosity while I was in the city anyway and it was completely deserted, not 1 person in the reception/stairs area, nobody outside, etc. Was just really strange to see after how incredibly popular it was just a few years back.
So does anyone know what happened? Why did Sant Jordi drop it when it was seemingly doing so well?
