Critique my itinerary to Egypt!
First time going to Egypt - very excited (24M/US). I am not really planning to do beach stuff but if I happen upon it, then why not? From Egypt I am going to SE Asia and there are lots of beach opportunities there so I would prefer to spend my time here checking out the ancient sites, etc. This is my plan so far but if you have ideas/suggestions please let me know!
Arriving in Nuweiba by ferry from Aqaba, should arrive around 1:30am and taxi/bus to Dahab.
- Sunrise hike on Mt. Sinai and check out St. Catherine's Monastery
- Bus to Cairo
Cairo - 2/3 days
Check out the mosques, bazaars, walls/gates in the Islamic neighborhoods. Egyptian museum, citadel, hanging church. Day trip to Alexandria (?)
Giza - 1 day
Pyramids, light show (worth it??), Heliopolis
Luxor - 2 days
Train down from Cairo/Giza. Check out Luxor and Karnak Temples, excursion to Dendara, Valley of the Kings (is this worth it?), Thebes
Aswan - 2 days
Train from Luxor. Day trip to Abu Simbel. Hang around the city and take the train back to Cairo to fly out
I'm planning to about 10/11 days in the country - does this sound good or add/remove anything?
