A hidden gem: Northern Slovakia and the Tatra mountain range
Hey everyone! The first thing that you may ask yourself is: why northern Slovakia? What does it have to offer? Well, turns out that a fucking lot, to be honest. The main reason is plain: the Tatra Mountains. They are on the Slovak/Polish border, very well communicated, and an awesome place for the casual hiker. Seriously, google it up and you will see they have some cool stuff going up there.
Aside from the mountain range on itself, which I cannot stress enough how awesome it is, you got a lot of neat stuff in there: Cracow to the north, Bratislava and Vienna to the west, Budapest to the east...
And to top it off, in Zdiar, an amazing mountain village, there is the Ginger Monkey, which is literally the best hostel I have ever been at (and also super cheap for Europe, check it out).
Just wanted to say this because planned a 4 day stay last summer and ended up being 8 (and would really have liked it to be more), so I owe this hole region at least this post for all the amazing times and beautiful hikes.
