Where should new solo travelers go to "find themselves"?
I have a friend who's going through a bad breakup and is having somewhat of an identity crisis since he's realizing he's never really been alone before. I jokingly recommended for him to take time off to travel and explore the world on his own to "find himself" and he actually seems to be considering some solo travel! Except, now I don't know where to recommend, so I could use your help!
He is an experienced traveler, but this would be his first solo trip. He speaks English, Spanish, and Arabic.
My first thought was for him to find a volunteer opportunity, like through voluneteerhq.org, and just go, unplug, and help out for a couple weeks. Have any of you done this before and can offer tips or recommendations?
