Something that lifted my American spirits
Not really sure why I'm posting this but thought it was comforting to me so decided I'd share.
I've been bummed in the past about my inability to travel internationally as much as I'd like to. I've always wanted to live a life of constant effortless travel like I see some of my EU friends doing, spending a weekend in one country then a few weeks later are visiting another.
As an American, it can just be too damn expensive to leave the country. I was talking about this to one of my european friends who eased my mind. "You've been to so many states. That's like me visiting 20 EU countries."
That cheered me up, and it's nice to think about. I think that we get so caught up in "going abroad" that we forget the US can be pretty diverse state-to-state and taking a weekend to roadtrip somewhere across state lines can sometimes be just as rewarding as crossing the pond. Maybe not exactly the same but enough to itch that travel bug without going into debt.
