Solo travel hasn't healed my broken heart, but...

It's distracted me from upsetting thoughts.

It's taught me to be more independent, confident and resilient.

It's taken me to places where I'm not reminded of my ex everywhere I go.

It's given me memories of my own, so memories with him aren't the only ones I can turn to.

It's helped me meet people from all around the world, who I never would have met if we were still together.

It's made me a more interesting person with lots of stories to tell.

It's allowed me to reflect on what I really want for myself.

It's shown me the value of being adventurous.

Nothing can heal a broken heart, and no amount of geographical distance provides an escape from your own feelings, but it's better to cry in a faraway exotic place than in a bed which feels emptier than ever. Since the breakup I've spent more time abroad than at home, and admittedly I still feel the same as I did on day 1, but I'm infinitely better off for the experiences I've had since then. If you're having a hard time, make some time for yourself, reach for your passport, and book a trip somewhere, you won't regret it.
