Solo female safety in Tulum, Mexico
Hey! So, I impulse booked a long weekend in Tulum this end of Feb. But after telling some friends they freaked out as apparently there were issues last year in Playa del Carmen, the US embassy shut down, there was a bomb on the PDC/Cozumel ferry...
So, my basic question - as a solo 26 year old - a fairly experienced solo traveler - is there anything I should be worried about doing this on my own?
My second question is that my flight lands at 8:30 and I was planning to rent a car to do the 2 hour drive south. Again, I'm an experienced driver so not worried about that, but mostly worried about whether it's safe to drive at night as a woman the 2 hours to Tulum. Should I be worried about that again? i would find street parking directly outside of the hostel in downtown Tulum.
My third question is are there any specific areas or situations I should avoid? I don't plan on staying out or even going out at night, my biggest concern is driving back up to playa del carmen and taking the ferry on my own to go snorkeling off Cozumel.
Thanks for the advice. I'm sure I'm over thinking it, but want some second opinions.
