Overwhelmed by the west...
Hey all,
Following up with a post I made a couple days ago. Originally my wife and I had planned on renting a car and driving across the country. It was kind of a spontaneous idea.
After posting here and reading your replies, as well as doing some of our own research, we generally agree that we're probably biting off more than we can chew in the time frame we have. It's also a ridiculous amount of money to return a rental car to a different location.
Neither of us have been out west and that's where we want to explore. We want to visit family out there but that is second to exploring.
As mentioned in my previous post, I'm a landscape photographer and we're both hikers. We want to explore the landscape around the west.
Places with family we'd like to visit but don't have to:
- Eureka, CA
- Denver, CO
We're totally open to suggestions.
Our thought now is it fly into Vegas, rent a car, and drive. Maybe Grand Canyon/surrounding area, jump from park to park to Denver. From Denver drive to Yellowstone, from there go to Eureka and then make our way back to Las Vegas.
I want to see the southwest/deserts as well as the Rocky's and Rocky mountain wilderness.
I'm so overwhelmed with parks and routes. I don't know where to begin planning this. I also don't want to be planning more than possible.
I'm willing to slim down the trip if necessary.
We'd be leaving the May 25 and returning June 9.
Thanks for any help you can offer!
