Ideas for things to see - Toronto - Washington DC - Blue Ridge Parkway - I-75 back to Toronto

I haven't taken my bike on a long ride for a while and I'm planning a quick trip in May to go down to DC, then head to western NC just off the Parkway to visit a friend, then Asheville, and then north likely up I-75 back to Toronto. I'm looking on roadtripper.com and AtlasObscura.com to see what I might find to visit along the way, but wonder about suggestions.

I've done the Skyline Drive and the whole of the Blue Ridge Parkway already, so I'm not tied to those at all in terms of routes, nor do I really have a specific route from Toronto to DC in mind - it looks like down US-219 then to Harrisburg and across is best for that.

I've ridden the most obvious routes along here already too - so I'm trying to find backroads that are still good options. Welcome any suggestions.
