Hostel Recommendations for Kyoto or Seoul?

Hey fam - I'm going on a long trip in East Asia and I'm looking for hostel advice for two cities where I'll be a bit longer: Kyoto (11 nights), and Seoul (6 nights). I'm looking for a few things:

  1. Security - I travel with locks, but I've noticed that not all hostels have lockers or drawers that can be locked. I'll be travelling with a laptop which I don't want to lug around all the time.
  2. Location - I like to be closer to centers of life in the town or at least within easy reach of the major train stations - in Kyoto in particular I will be taking numerous day trips.
  3. Sociability - a lot of this is who shows up I know, but common rooms, common cooking areas, etc. etc. that facilitate are appreciated!
