Female walking alone in Europe at night - experiences?
I know this is a very general question, and answers will vary depending on the country, but I`d like to hear your experiences as a solo female traveler walking alone at night. My first and only solo trip was to Rome, and while walking during the day I experienced some harassment. Nothing too serious, e.g. some catcalling, a guy that was too persistent, following me for a while and trying to maintain a conversation even though I clearly expressed lack of interest, another similar experience with another guy. This made me wonder if I would experience something more severe on my own in the dark, more specifically in Istanbul, Budapest and Barcelona (my upcoming solo trip). I also have some safety concerns as for violence and theft.
Am I worrying too much? Or has anyone been through something that makes my concerns valid?
