Convincing someone else to go Solo?
I have a friend who doesn’t have many close friends. She keeps on asking me to go on holiday with her and I’ve explained multiple time that I can’t. She will guilt trip me for not agreeing and talks about how much she “needs” this trip as a break from work. But then, when I suggest she goes solo she just says, “oh no, I couldn’t do that.” Like its something only social lepers would consider.
I did my first solo trip when I was 19. It wasn't my ideal way to travel but I did it out of necessity; I either went alone, or not at all. Almost 10 years have passed since then, and while I can certainly say that solo is not my favourite way to travel I really love the freedom that it gives me to see new places and to go exactly where I want, when I want. Some of my favourite memories of the last 10 years were created during solo trips and I am so grateful that I said “fuck it” all those years ago and went out and did it on my own.
But no matter how many times I tell her this, she won't consider it. Its getting so fustrating. I really value her as a friend but she is pushing me away with this.
Any advice or experience on how to help someone see the light?
Or just similar stories to join in my rant with?
