Colombia itinerary: Mompox or Villa de Leyva as final stop?
Hi all,
I've been working on my two week itinerary for Colombia in April-May, and have this so far:
- 22 April: Fly into Bogota (arrive 7pm) – stay at hotel near airport overnight
- 23 - Fly to Pereira in AM (flight booked) for Salento
- 24-25 - Salento & Cocora Valley
- 26 - Travel Day: Travel to Medellin on direct shuttle bus
- 27 - Explore Medellin
- 28 - Day trip to Guatape
- 29-30 - Bus to Jardin (overnighting here)
- 30 - Late bus to Medellin for the night
- 1 May - Travel Day: Fly to Cartagena (booked) in the morning from Medellin Airport
- 2 - Explore Cartagena
- 3?
- 4?
- 5?
- 6 - Fly back to UK at 8.15pm
I am debating where to put as my final stop between Cartagena and home. My two preferences are:
Villa de Leyva: in which case, I guess I can fly from Cartagena to Bogota, then catch a bus to Villa de Leyva for a couple of nights, then back on the morning of the 6th to Bogota Airport.
Mompox: This looks a tad tricky to get to, but it also looks really up my street. I could get a direct bus from Cartagena, stay a couple of nights, then take a final bus back to Bogota on the 5th.
Also open to other suggestions! I'm not interested in Tayrona, Santa Marta, Minca or Barranquilla. I love colonial towns/cities, smaller scenic towns and museums, historic areas and cowboy country.
Thanks!
