Hello! I'm flying out to Costa Rica on the 29th of Jan and made basic plans to solo travel (bus, hitchhike) north towards Mexico. I only made plans, and haven't committed anything financially (i.e. prebooking hotels, flights out of Costa Rica, etc).

So I was wondering If anyone would have any info on whether I should or shouldn't go north from Costa Rica through Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala. People are telling me it's way too dangerous to be in Central America atm, and some are saying it's alright and not to worry! I'm getting so much contrasting info!!

Does anyone have any solid advice for me? I'd appreciate it.

Also, this is my first solo trip ever + I'm 21, Male.
