Are you ever nervous about others disliking you because of your nationality while you travel?
I’m sure this is a dumb question and I’ll be 100% fine, but I still want to get some insight from the experiences that other people have had.
I’m American and my first solo trip to Edinburgh, London, and Berlin is coming up soon (Yay!). Over the holidays I was spending some time with my cousins who insisted that I shouldn’t expect a warm welcome. In their words, “we’re American. The rest of the world fucking hates us.” They went on about our reputation for being loud, cocky ect. and that’s not even touching on the state of our president or government. It makes the idea of me traveling solo even more nerve wracking to think that I would be unwelcome.
I’m trying not to overthink it, and I’m sure 99% of the people I meet won’t give a damn at all that I’m American, but they still got under my skin. Do other countries really dislike American tourists or are my cousins full of it?
