Advice for 1st time solo travel
Hi everyone!
I’m starting to brainstorm my very first solo trip for this summer. I have 3 weeks completely free! I love to travel, but have mostly done Western Europe so far. For this upcoming trip, I’m really open minded to go anywhere! Also, I’m 21F, American, and speak Dutch.
My main reason for posting this is seeking advice for traveling alone vs in groups... how to navigate alone, safety precautions, what to always carry with you, how to not look like a tourist in sticky situations... please share your advice, anything is appreciated!
Below are some reference points for brainstorming:
Where I’ve been: Belgium, the Netherlands, southern Spain, France, Germany, Czechia, Mexico, the Dominican Republic
Where I’m interested in traveling: really anywhere new that’s safe for a young-ish female to be alone! Except for Greece, Italy, and Peru (going with a group the upcoming year)
Budget: I’d like to keep it below $3500, I usually stay in hostels or airbnbs
Duration: I’d like to be traveling between 2-3 weeks, very open to exploring several countries in that time
Interests: I really love nature and hiking, but in all honesty I’d be afraid to hike alone in a foreign land unless it is safe. Besides nature, I really enjoy engaging myself in diverse cultures, visiting monuments/things worth seeing, and learning the history about the place I’m in!
