A post for people who worry too much.
This is a rehash of what I said to someone who was worried about an airline. But it speaks volumes about how to not let things get in your way. It's a bit of an insight into my internal philosophy as an introverted stoic so take a read.
If you are ever worried about X happening (X being the airline/hostel/advice or whatever) you need to ask yourself the following:
How many people out of the thousands that travel every year get a problem like the one you are thinking or reading about? Probably less than 1%
If you are constantly worrying about things that COULD go wrong, you are hindering yourself mentally, all you can do is prepare for it in time, then just get on with it, and EXPERIENCE it, even if it does go wrong. These things only serve to make you more resilient and knowledgeable in the situations in the future. This includes people worrying about their safety in another country, I might be a bit too nihilistic in my approach here but again, stressing the numbers game, it's SO unlikely that the places you are worried about are actually as bad as they are made out to be.
People complaining should always be taken with a pinch of salt. I find that people who complain tend to be the ones who will look for reasons to complain, and if you come to a subreddit like this one and you see post after post of people whining about X it's enough to put you off of going to a certain place.
Just buy the damn tickets and stop worrying about what could go wrong and enjoy the trip! Don't try to work out every detail before you get there because you are depriving yourself of true learning - that is to experience the situation first hand and deal with it trying your own reasoning and logic. The key to knowledge is understanding, and once you have been through that, it is absolutely priceless and you can apply it to every area of your life.
Live your life, not someone else's.
