1st Solo Trip to Europe: Germany or Netherlands, which country to pick?
Hi there,
I just wanted some advice for someone travelling to Germany/Netherlands for the first time. I am planning to visit Berlin, Amsterdam and Brussels (if possible) within 7-9 days. I'm actually stuck in a dilemma on which country I should be landing in.
Here's the first scenario:
- Fly to Germany (land in Hamburg* airport), catch a train directly to Berlin (1.5+ hours approx.)
- Spend 5 nights in Berlin (will be spending most nights partying during weekends)
- Catch a train from Berlin - Amsterdam (6+ hours approx.)
- Spend 3 nights in Amsterdam + (day-trip to Brussels)
- Flight back home via Amsterdam (Schiphol airport)
\*Hamburg: didn't see a lot of things to do here, hence catching the train to Berlin directly after landing (open to suggestions).
And, the second scenario:
- Fly to Netherlands (land in Schiphol airport)
- Spend 3 nights in Amsterdam + (day-trip to Brussels)
- Catch a train from Amsterdam - Berlin (6+ hours approx.)
- Spend 5 nights in Berlin
- Catch a train from Berlin - Hamburg airport; for flight back home.
I'm open to alternative routes/suggestions or even different countries to visit (Italy?), since it'll be 4-5 months before I actually travel to Europe. This is my first time, so I'm a little apprehensive of travelling to Eastern European countries since safety is my main concern (hope I don't sound ignorant). There also seems to be a huge debate between Amsterdam vs Berlin nightlife, in your opinion which of the two actually has a great nightlife? I listen to all genre of music but not a huge fan of techno (so obviously Berlin might not be ideal, but I'm open to the techno life).
Thanks in advance!
