18/M want to solo travel but strict parents
Hello, I’m 18/M and south Asian decent with traditional parents; ever since I was a kid my family use to always go on vacations but it soon changed after an internal family struggle came up so we couldn’t travel for years however soon after it was fixed my younger brother was born and he had an illness which made it impossible to travel. My dad always is at work, and mother is stay at home taking care of my little brother. My parents are also super strict as they need to know where I am 99% of the time and hate it when I leave the house I really want to solo travel mainly because I love trying new bold things that bring me out of my comfort zone (my parents know that I have this trait and are sometimes supportive of it) but I jokingly brought up the fact that I’m going to go to Europe alone and my parents laughed at me saying “maybe in the future, you can’t handle the real world yet” I know I probably won’t be ready to travel but I want to experience the world and get out of my comfort bubble of staying home. Especially since it’s been a dream of mine since I was a child to backpack through south east Asia. I can see why they wouldn’t want me to solo travel since they believe traveling in groups is better cause you get to share the experience and be safe however wanting to solo travel is a challenge I want to face without family and friends (we’re also planning on going back to the motherland as a family vacation since we haven’t been able to go since I was a child) I always think it’s unfair that my parents are strict because when my dad was about the same age as me he traveled around alone and he is supportive in my ambitions traveling but he would want it to be a group travel a family member or relative. And I know that if he did approve of me going “solo” it would be going to the motherland mainly because of family heritage and because he’s comfortable with the country. So I asked: How do I convince my parents to allow me to go solo? How do I prove to them that I’m more than capable of taking care of myself ? How do I convince them to not send me to the motherland ?
