11 Days in Colombia

Hey everybody, so I’m heading to Colombia at the end of February and would appreciate a second set of eyes on the plan and any suggestions. I’m 29 and have travelled solo through Europe solo on three trips, the longest being 4 weeks. Still love hostels but with prices thinking about at least a few nights in private rooms at hostels. I also still love to party, but it’s not a main focus for this trip at least. I’m a pretty experienced hiker/backpacker/kayaker and would love to spend a bunch of time outside if cities. Beaches are beautiful and awesome but I’ve always been more of a forest/mountains/river person.

Budget wise, I tend to a pretty frugal traveler, but being a little further along career wise now, I can afford the occasional splurge (like a $200-300 day trip that I would have avoided when younger and on longer trips). What I do spend money on is things that will allow me more time as opposed to comfort. Example being plane tickets instead of bus tickets for long distances. Even though I guess that would be more comfortable as well as shorter haha.

Anyway here the plan so far:

Day 1: Arrive in Medellin at the airport at 13:38 and go to hostel.

Days 2-4: Medellin with trip to Guatape either with hostel trip or by myself in the bus. Communa 13 tour, Metrocable ride, maybe another trip out of the city, would love some suggestions.

Day 5: Fly from Medellin to Santa Marta, spend night in Santa Marta and check out the old part of the city and the ocean.

Days 6-7: Spend both nights in Minca and either explore on hikes or maybe do a birdwatching tour. Have a really night private room at a hostel with a great view.

Day 8: Travel from Minca to Cartagena, on paper the doesn’t seem to hard. Check into the hostel and hopefully enjoy a fun night in the city.

Days 9-10: All day in Cartagena, want to take a trip to the beaches, maybe the mud volcano and explore the old part of the city.

Day 11: Fly home, however my flight does not leave until 23:00 so I have time to spend time in the city most of the day.

Day 12: Arrive home haha.

I’m pretty flexible on most of this, the only thing I have booked that can’t be changed is the plane tickets into Medellin and out of Cartagena. Once I’m in the country I can be pretty flexible. Any way any suggestions or tips are appreciated.
