Trip to Memphis
I'm going on vacation relatively soon with a long-time friend of mine (been friends for about ~14 years). I don't live in our hometown anymore, so we decided to take a trip from our hometown southward- where it's not frigidly chilly, and embark on an adventure of the open road. We had the goal of Memphis in mind: it's not too far south to be a pain in the ass, but definitely worth doing in half a day. We're heading from Detroit, and I figured it'd be a good staging ground/checkpoint for whatever we'd like to get into.
We set the goal to pick two wilderness areas and one metropolitan area in mind, but I'm having trouble. Maybe it's because I don't take too many road trips, but the fear of the unknown is real. I'm wondering where are some places that people have gone to and enjoyed in the south, say- in the Tennesee area? We're not afraid to drive around 10 miles from Memphis, or anywhere from the path from Detroit to Memphis, or maybe a bit further. Just curious to see what people's recommendations are. We plan toughing it out in the cold, probably camping, but we have a few cabins on standby in case the weather is really shit.
Spent an extensive amount of time in Atlanta, but the rest of Georgia is relatively unknown to me (scratch Columbus). Again, looking for cool places between Detroit and Memphis (or beyond), or what recommendations would be for a little road trip like this. Don't do it too often, but really looking forward to it. Thanks again!
