Planning a Solo Road Trip - National Parks of the East
I'll have a few weeks available in February, and am planning a road trip to see some national parks. I'd like some feedback and recommendations on my plan. Is it feasible? What things should I see while I'm on my trip?
February isn't ideal. Going solo isn't either! But it's what I have to work with, and I'm not going to wait around for perfect circumstances.
I have a 4WD truck, and will mainly be camping. I might get a roof top tent if I can, otherwise I'll get a four-season tent. Either way I'm preparing for the cold, bringing snow shoes, etc. Here's the rough plan at this point:
Start in Annapolis, MD
Shenandoah National Park
Congaree National Park
Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Mammoth Cave National Park
Cuyahoga Valley National Park
End in Annapolis, MD
The longest day of driving is between Mammoth Cave and Cuyahoga Valley (420 miles) but on average I'll be driving 280 miles between parks. If I spend two full days (three nights) in each park I can do it in 16 days.
So, let me know what you think. THANKS!
