Minneapolis to LA -- Tips and Advice Request! -- Best route? Car check?
*Looking for any tips and advice for solo cross country road trip!*
Mid-January, I will be driving from Minneapolis to Los Angeles and then driving back to Minneapolis around Mid-March. I've done 7-10 hour road trips before with a friend during the summer, but never something that will be 25-35 hours (by myself 📷) in the winter.
I will be taking in my car (Hyundai Elantra 2013) for an oil change in the next couple weeks and I'll ask the mechanics if they have any pointers as well. Are there specific questions I should be asking the mechanics?
Anything from ways to keep myself occupied on the drive, good places to eat, ways to save money, how many hours I should ideally drive before resting, etc. etc. are all welcome!
I am open to all types of entertainment, love food (any kind really), and have driven multiple 5-7 hour road trips.
The route I am considering taking will most likely be the Google Maps recommended route of MN-IA-NE-CO-UT-NV-CA via I-35 to I-80 and I-70, but I am also considering MN-IA-MO-KS-OK-TX-NM-AZ-CA via I-35 and I-40 to avoid driving through the mountains.
I don't want to set aside time for too many stops or sightseeing because I do want to try to save as much money and time as I can. Also I am planning on checking out Airbnbs in the areas I am stopping at.
