How much of a plan do you need? Can you just wing it?
Hey guys,
27M here. Going to be quitting my job soon and going solo from Ireland to SEA. I need a break from reality because I'm starting to loose my mind from my career and I'm after breaking up with my gf of 7 years. Just completed a tefl course too, might decide to stay for a year in Vietnam if I like it, i know a few people there.
My plan is basically to buy a one way ticket and wing it the rest of the way. I'm gonna come up with like, a bit of a plan for what I want to see - but I'm not putting any time limits in any place or anything. I'm going for as long as I want and if I feel like coming home, I'll come home when I want. Money isn't really a problem, I've €25k saved from work but I don't plan on spending much, I want to stay in hostels and stuff where I can actually meet people and have fun. A big part of this for me is just getting away from reality and making new friends, I know that doesn't always happen so I'm not really going to expect every traveller to want to hang out, I'm just considering this more soul searching than anything and I don't even know if I want to come back to Ireland ever.
I'm not limiting myself to Vietnam, I will literally do whatever and go wherever I want - Laos, Japan, China, wherever.
Anyway, for anyone that's done this, does this plan work? Just go, have what you want to see roughly planned out and then just wing it? Or should I be meticulously planning this out? I can't speak a word of any Asian language, that is the one thing that is really freaking me out. Any advice on this?
I never really wanted to travel alone, I still don't to be honest I wish I had a partner to travel with but sure fuck it, that's life isn't it? And if I don't do this now I'll regret it forever so I guess I don't really have much of a choice but to go alone. Am I scared? Fuck yeah. Am I excited? I am indeed.
