Solo U.S West Coast Road Trip / Camping
Hi, I am planning a solo road trip down the west coast of the U.S starting from Alberta, Canada all the way to California and back up through the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Park.
I am wondering what advice anyone can give for a solo camper and solo Backcountry hiker.
Any specific Backcountry hikes to recommend? Any specific but affordable starter gear to recommend? Tips for meeting new people while camping solo? Places to visit along the way? Any specific National Parks that are Unique and highly recommended? Any gear specific to safety and security?
As I am traveling by myself and likely doing a few Backcountry hikes with any ranger lead groups would you recommend I get a satellite phone and what's a affordable and good option for satellite phones?
Also are there any risks or concerns I should be aware of?
All the advice and recommendations are welcome whether positive or negative as I'd like to know exactly what I should expect. I am taking this trip to help reconnect with myself and figure out what I want to do with my life now freshly graduated from university. Anyone who's gone through similar experiences please share your perspectives.
