Road trip out west: Minnesota > Yellowstone > Washington > California > Grand Canyon > Denver > Minnesota
Hey all!
I'm hoping to get some insight, along with any and all suggestions, opinions, or ideas!
I have been wanting to plan a road trip for a few years now, and am in a good place to be able to take some time off. I am hoping to make a huge trip out west, mainly stopping at National Parks and trying to see as much nature, and do as much hiking, as possible! My tentative route is as follows:
Start in SE Minnesota, head through SD and hit up the badlands, swing by Devils Tower in WY on my way to Yellowstone, head north to Glacier, then west towards Seattle. From there I'm undecided between heading down the coast through Oregon, then cutting over to eastern CA, or just follow along the national forests in the mid OR and eastern CA. From there, Yosemite, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, Denver, then back home to MN.
I've never planned a trip this long before, and am wondering if I'm rushing myself if I want to try to do that all in 4 weeks. My main idea is that I don't know when I'll have the free time to just explore in the future.
I am planning on staying in as many campgrounds as possible, with Airbnb or hotel stays if needed in an urban area.
I'm hoping to see as many new sights as possible and be out in nature as much as I can! Is this even realistic? Does anyone have experience planning such a big trip? I wouldn't be going until around August 2019 so I have plenty of time to plan and adjust.
Any ideas of where to stop, what to do in those areas, or edits/suggestions to the trip are welcomed! Thanks so much for helping me out! :)
