NewMexico Road Trippin
Hello /r/roadtrip,
I'm planning a 5 day road trip through the Enchanted State starting this Wednesday! I'm looking for any advice, suggestions on what to do, and what to avoid. I'm a Psychonaut, and am interested in dark tourism as well. My goal is to learn as much as I can about New Mexico, the culture, people and history, food, drink, and music.
I prefer to camp as much as possible, anything up to staying in a hostel as I love meeting new groups of people, all while trying to be as frugal as possible. Info on free sites or safe spots where camping (sleeping in my truck) is accessible would be wonderful. Love music and live shows especially native cultural inspired.
What is considered faux pas or taboo in the state? What are misconceptions about NM? Tell me everything I might need to know!
Here is a link with my loosely planed destinations map.
Points of interest:
Carlsbad cavers
White Sands
MeowWolf
Hot springs
Taos Pueblos
Observatories (any events?)
Star gazing with camping
Ruins/historic sites
Native Shamanism
National Parks
Local Music and bands are a must as well!
local Food, beer and markets
I’ll probably edit this as I spend more time looking into destinations and take any advice into account as I’m completely open to suggestions. Thank you in advance for any input.
