Vegas>Grand Canyon for a night in December, doable?
I am heading out West this December with my wife to spend some time with her family coming up from Colombia. We're doing LA for 5 days and then heading to Las Vegas for another 5 before flying back East from McCarran.
From my experience, 5 nights in Vegas might be a bit much. That said, I will have a vehicle and saw that the Grand Canyon, a bucket list destination of mine I've yet to experience, is only about 4-5 hour drive from LV. Before booking a 5 night stay in Vegas, I am considering making an overnight trip to check it out. I assume it is impossible to take in the GC properly in just a day or 2, but I am curious to see if anyone has any experience trying! Also, I have no idea what to expect in terms of weather in early-mid December in that area and if this would make it an inadvisable excursion. The vehicle will most likely be a car/sedan and there will be just 2-3 of us making this "side-trip". I would have loved to camp out for a night but mid-Dec doesn't look conducive. We will need to find a hotel/place to stay for the night (unless a super-extended day trip is a better option, i.e. leave LV 6am - leave GC 9pm).
Very open to any alternative destinations within driving distance from LV for a 1-night trip as well.
Any advice/ideas/experience is greatly appreciated!
