Planning a West Coast road trip
My husband and I will be roadtripping to the west coast from Colorado. Our first kick-off city will be Monterey, CA with their aquarium. We will head north to SF and onto Oregon (Portland) and Washington (Seattle), then back east and through Idaho and Wyoming to home. We are a bit overwhelmed with the vast variety of activities and sights available to us.
So, reddit, are there any off-the-beaten path sights, or must-see places that we should stop at? Excellent restaurants or unique experiences that you've had?
Details about our trip:
We will be departing in late April-Mid May and have planned for about 2-3 weeks vacation. We will sleep some nights in our Forester, and others we will Air BnB or find cheap hotels. We have budgeted about $6k for the trip.
Things we enjoy:
Nature of all sorts, national parks, wildlife sighting, hiking, great food and the occasional dive bar.
