How to find safe places to stay(Deep South)
Hey guys, I just finished the first day of a road trip going from Upstate New York to San Antonio, and I'm staying in Washington DC. for the night with a friend. I'm looking to do about 8 hours a day, so my next logical stop would be around Knoxville. After that I could spend the next night in New Orleans or Little Rock, both places are about 8 hours from San Antonio and both routes are about equidistant.
I'm a minority from a relatively small town whose spent most of my life in the northeast. I'm juggling two perceptions which I know not to be wholly representative(racism and southern hospitality) and I'm kinda nervous by the high crimes rates in the cities where I'm planning on stopping. Should I be staying like an hour outside of these places? It's my first time in the South and not knowing these cities I'm not sure where I should be avoiding. I'm just looking to get to San Antonio safely and am not too concerned about much else. I'm sorry if this comes off as offensive, it'll be my first time in the area and I'm nervous.
