Sorry for the long post! Paying the fee with a doggy photo

hello all,

Me, my boyfriend and our dog (50lb pit mix) will be leaving the corporate setting to explore the good ol' USA next March, 2019. We are in the initial stages of planning... just bought a Coleman Evanston 8 with screen room for $86 on Prime day! woohoo! (any thoughts on this tent is much appreciated! I'm trying to figure out how to keep the "porch" part of the tent dry... probably buy a tarp to put on top)

This is a high level view of our route... nothing is set in stone. Sticking with the west coast for this 2 month trip.

Start in Minnesota

North Dakota

Montana

Alberta, Canada

Oregon

San francisco

San Diego

Arizona

Utah

Colorado

Wyoming

South Dakota

  1. Your suggestions on favorite places to camp, attractions, hikes, restaurants, breweries in these states would be great! If they're dog friendly, that will be a bonus!!

  2. We are thinking about leaving in middle to late March to avoid tourist season and the hot weather... but one of my co worker just told me that Yellowstone won't even be open until May?! I need to do date research on this... are there any road blocks that you can think of for newbies that are going on a road trip in March? Is it too early?

  3. If you don't mind... can you share your budget? This is what I'm thinking... (per person):

Gas: $35

Accommodation: $60 (I'm putting this high just in case we have to book a hotel or airbnb. Hoping to save cost by camping majority of the time - I like to over estimate, just in case...)

Food: $50

Misc: $20 (thinking... tickets and parking, etc.)

TOTAL: $165 X 60days = $9900

Emergency: $3000

Grand TOTAL: $12,900

Is this doable? Am I forgetting something?

  1. For dog owners, what did you bring on your trip for your dog? Other than food and water bowls, tick and heart worm medication, toothbrush, toothpaste, doggy bed, toys, treats, booties, cooling vest, leash (multiple)...?

  2. Was there anything that you wished you brought on your trip that you either forgot or didn't think of?

  3. What do you use for protection? I have a pepper spray and a stun gun... thinking of getting a bear spray too. Anything else (other than a gun) that you can suggest?

We're going to get the park pass and choose the ones that are dog friendly. For days where we want to go to a place that isn't dog friendly, we'll have him stay at the Airbnb or hotel for a little bit. He's always been good good boy :) Super excited to go on this trip! Thank you in advance for all of your help!
