I just pulled a gun on someone trying to get into my truck while I was sleeping in it.
I should use a throwaway, but oh well.
I was sleeping in a rest area in the cab of my truck. I am female and by myself. I have done this many times. The rest area had several cars that obviously had sleepers in them and a few were coming and going. I noticed a couple people who were walking around but I figured they were just stretching their legs.
I kept my truck on because it is hot and I wanted the AC on. I messed around on my phone for a while, then shut it off and went to sleep. I woke up to the sound of someone trying to open my drivers side door. I started yelling "Go Away!" as I sat up. The woman just stood there. I recognized her from the couple I had seen earlier. I kept yelling at her to go away as she kept standing there saying how she was sorry and thought this was her truck. Remember...my truck is running, with running lights on. There were no other running vehicles and no others the same as my truck.
I looked in my side view mirror and saw another person standing behind the passenger door. I'm still yelling at this chick to get away and she's still just standing there so I grabbed my gun, racked one in the chamber, flipped the safety and held it next to the window. I did not point it at her, but I think she got the point. I screamed "Get the Fuck Away!" and she finally backed off, as did the other person. I put my truck in gear and bailed.
I have no doubt that these people were up to some kind of no good. There is no way they mistook my truck for theirs as there weren't any similar makes or running vehicles there. I'm so grateful that I reacted appropriately, despite being awoken from a sound sleep and I'm so grateful I have a gun and that I know how to use it safely.
I went down the road for about 100 miles and got a hotel room. Not sure if I'll be sleeping in the truck again anytime soon.
