I hit a deer on the road with a rental car... I need some help
Hello guys.
I'm living in San Jose, CA.
I decided road trip travel and rent a car near San Jose from June 21 to July 11.
It was a small rental car company, so they don't have any other branches.
I got a great deal, 20 days for $1000, including full-coverage insurance.
Starting from SF, I went through CA, NV, UT, ... NY, ... finally Chicago.
I enjoyed a lot and it was time to go west coast on July 1st.
I was heading to El Paso, New Mexico to see white sands desert.
And I was driving in Anthony, KS, where is countryside, around 1AM, on July 2nd.
It was way dark and what I could see is only moon light.
All of a sudden a deer jumped into my way from reed fields next to the street.
Finally, I hit the deer.
The front left side of the car is broken.. and towed away.. and the deer ran away into the reed fields with blood mark afterwards the accident. I don't know it is still alive. I think it would've died soon.
As soon as the sun comes up, I had called rental car company to report the accident and they asked me to call insurance company to report again. I called them and they asked me a few question. Finally, They said the examiner would call me soon.(But I'm still waiting for the phone call).
And the rental car company called the towing company to ask how bad the vehicle was. The towing company said they think it'll be scrapped. It's better to scrap the vehicle because we had to carry the car to CA from KS ...
This is the end of my story.
Now I have some problems to deal with..
-
The deductible is $500. But the rental car company said to me... 'We haven't got a call from insurance company, but you may pay deductible and plus something bla bla~~'. Is it for real? I thought I just had to pay $500. Who is right?
-
When I pay the deductible, how do I pay? and who do I have to give $500 to? The insurance company? or rental car company? I think the rental car company is lying to me.
-
The insurance company will cover all of the money like towing fee, scrapping fee ... except $500?
-
And what is the rest of rental fee gonna be? I mean I paid $1000 for 20 days, $50 for each day. But the accident happened around 10th days. So around 10 days are left, about $500.
I just hope that I can finish all of the issues before I go back to my country... in August. Thank you..
