Feedback on Chicago-San Jose Roundtrip
Hi, I'm planning to go visit my grandparents out in San Jose, and since I just bought a new car, I thought I'd road trip out there, seeing some national parks and camping along the way. I don't have a ton of time (I have an office job) but I should be able to get there and back again in two weeks. I'm shooting for about 6 hours driving per day.
I'm trying to figure out the general area I should stay. Here are the stops I've plotted out:
- IA - Nations Bridge Park - just a stop, not sure if there's anything big I'm missing in Iowa.
- NE - Lake Maloney State Park - again, just a stop.
- CO - Pike's Peak - I've always wanted to drive the Pike's Peak Hill Climb/Highway.
- Arches National Park
- Zion National Park
- LA - probably stay in a nice hotel
- San Jose - I'd like to take the PCH up here from LA, but I don't think I have enough time, so I'd probably just do the normal route.
- Reno - not sure if there's any worthwhile camping in the area?
- NV/ID border - Salmon Creek Falls looks nice?
- MT - Billings - I found a BLM dispersed camping area up in Acton, MT, a short drive away.
- Badlands National Park
- MN - Myre Big Island State Park
I guess one big question, is Zion too hot/too crowded for early September?
EDIT: also, I should say I have about two weeks. Not ideal, I know, but I'm working with what I have.
