Some questions about accommodations in Santiago de Chile

Hi /r/solotravel! I'm booking a trip to Santiago de Chile and I'm having trouble getting a sense of the best neighborhood to stay in. Lots of people recommend Lastarria, but then other people say that it's seedy, crowded, touristy, etc. I generally trust people on this subreddit, so I'm curious to know if anyone has stayed in Lastarria and has thoughts on it. Or, can you recommend any neighborhoods that might be better? My only real requirement is that the place I stay have an easy commute to the national archives (Miraflores 50) since I'll be working there during the daytime.

I'm a woman traveling alone, but I speak Spanish and have traveled in Latin America before. I'd really like to stay somewhere where I can walk around at night and not have to take taxis everywhere. Thanks!
