Looking for Solo Travel Recommendations - Criteria Included
Hello, this year I'm hoping to go on my first solo travel experience for my birthday. As this is about 4 months away I'm starting to plan now but I have very little experience with planning trips and even less experience going out of the country (I am in the United States).
With that in mind I'm trying to set a few criteria for myself that might make for a smoother experience that I can then build from. These are as follows:
- Can get around efficiently by Train, Bus, Bicycle, Motorbike, or Foot
I don't drive a car in my day to day life but I do ride a Motorcycle/Scooter for a daily commuter. I'm also in fairly good shape so getting around by bike or foot is an option, and I feel like public transit is a viable option. Anything that requires a car is probably a no-go.
- English Speaking Countries or a High Volume of ESL
I only speak English at this time and while I would absolutely do my best to learn some phrases in the native language of the country I travel to I am worried about communication.
- Countries with a Safer Reputation
Again, because I'm going alone and getting my international legs I'd prefer to stick to countries where there's a little less street smarts required to stay safe.
Other information that might be of use for recommendations:
-
I'm Male and in my 20's-30's.
-
I have never been out of the US except the Mexico so my experience is very limited.
-
I have no sites/activities in mind, I think I could find things to do almost anywhere. My main desire to travel is to experience other cultures and how people live in other places, probably less for the tourism focused areas that all countries have. Although there's nothing wrong with those either.
-
I will be able to travel for about a week to ten days.
-
I am in the SW of the US and am trying to limit the total cost of the trip to $3000, of course lower is better. This would only include travel expenses, things back home are all taken care of.
Thank you to anyone with some advice for me or a recommendation. I am happy to to answer additional questions that may be useful, I didn't see anything in the sidebar though.
