Ecuador in June / July

Hello all!

I'm going to be in Ecuador for twenty days starting June 21th to July 11th. My itinerary is fluid at the moment but I think I have some decisions to make sooner rather than later and am seeking advice.

As of now, I'm flying into (and out of) Guayaquil and plan to head straight to the coast to spend 7-10 days moving north from Montanita to Canoa. I'd only like to stay 1-2 nights in Montanita then make a quieter town such as Olon or Ayampe a home base for 3-4 nights (if I get bored one night they are close enough to take a taxi to Montanita), where I'd like to stay at a surf camp (I'm a beginner) and practice my Spanish. On my way to Canoa, I'm interested in passing through Puerto Lopez and doing a tour / whale watching to the "poor man's" Galapagos, Isla de la Plata, before arriving in Canoa for 2-3 days. In Canoa, I'd like to surf / chill more and do some of the surrounding activities (I heard there's a cool farm experience!).

From Canoa, I'll leave the coast and head to Quito, spend 1 day, then go into the jungle (probably via Coca or Tena) for 3-4 days. After the jungle, I'll start heading back south to Guayaquil and try to fit in Banos or Cuenca.

My main concern is the coastal part of the trip, I've read mixed reviews for this time of the year. Being June / July, I read it is not exactly beach weather, which is ok with me as long as the surf is still good and the weather still warm. I like the idea of there not being huge crowds, but since I'm traveling solo I also want to socialize / be around other travelers. Has anyone spent time on the coast during this time of the year? Are Montanita and Canoa ghost towns during this time?

If it's not worth spending so much time on the coast during this time, I'd be ok cutting the coastal time short and spending more time going deep into the Amazon and in and around Cuencas and Banos.

Notes: I'm a 29yo male, I'll do low-mid range budget accommodations, and am open to doing extreme activities / excursions, which I'm willing to pay up for.

Thank you in advance! Hope I can come back here after my trip and share my experience in Ecuador with others.
