Complete newbie, looking for some guidance.

Hello friends, I am new to this subreddit and brand new to solo traveling. I’m American, female, 24, and an introvert to the extreme. I am planning my first solo journey for January 2019, as I work in a bar in a tourist town, and it’s the most feasible time of year to take 10 days off.

I plan on buying a round trip plane ticket to Berlin, and basically making a big triangle, traveling by train once I’m there. I want to see enough things in Berlin to spend probably about 3 days there. I want to see Auschwitz-Birkenau, as well as Krakow. I also want to spend a few days in Prague.

I feel like 3 major destinations is a good amount for 10-12 days of travel. I plan on booking hostels as I go, because I know January is the “off” season in most places and based on my research, there will be more availability, and I want the flexibility to decide to stay an extra day in one town if I really like it. Is this a good idea?

As for train tickets, I plan on purchasing the Eurail global pass good for 15 days, so if I get there and take a wild notion to change my route, I have some freedom to do so. Does anyone have experience with this? And is there generally enough signage in English/do enough people speak some English for me to find my way from station to station?

Lastly, the budget. I’ve budgeted about $3000-3500 for this trip. It looks like a first class eurail pass is about $500, and the flight would be between $800-1000. But I know I will want to take buses around each town and see lots of museums and things like that.

Please let me know your thoughts and suggestions. I know a person’s first trip alone can be daunting, but I’m excited, and want to do everything I can to prepare myself.
