West Coast USA
Hi fellow travellers! I'm going to be heading to the US for the first time & since I believe a few of you are from there I was wondering if I could pick brains for some ideas of where to go & what to see & how to best get around!
I've done a lot of solo travel around Europe, Asia & the middle east, also down around South America. But it will be my first time in the USA!
My plan so far is to start in Olympic National Park for 8 days hiking mid-June. From there I want to go across to Seattle. Does anyone know of any bus routes & how easy it is to get these ie. Can I just show up at a stop on the day & jump on the next bus?
I want to end up in San Francisco. I guess I'll have about 3-4 weeks in total but I'm pretty flexible. Just looking for ideas of where to stop off along the way. I will be taking public transport or are ride shares a thing/safe in the US?
Accommodation wise I've heard CS is pretty good in the US. The few times I've tried it in Europe I've been let down. So normally I would stay in hostels or Airbnb. Often I'd rock up to a hostel in Europe & ask for a bed. Don't know if it's that easy in the US though.
And would flying on stand-by be easy from San Francisco to Vancouver? How does that work? I've never tried it before because around Europe I would just book a cheap flight a few days before. The US is going to be a bit more expensive than what I'm used to when on the fly with no plans!
Any tips would be much appreciated! I like getting outdoors but since I'll already be doing the majority of my hiking in the first week I think I'm more looking at city based activities. Budget of <$100 per day! I like culture & history but I don't want to visit every single museum & church(?) in every town I go to!
