Tips on how to turn around a bad trip, or should I just wave my white flag and go home?

Hi all. Currently in Guatemala, for reference.

So, I’ll try keeping this short - last year I planned a second Balkan trip for this spring. My friend asked if he could join, and I said sure, and along the way of planning the trip we fell in love and became a couple. All went smoothly, we got to Albania, all was good, but he hated it and wanted to go somewhere else. He ended up finding cheap flights to Central America, specifically Mexico. I didn’t necessarily want to go, because it was MY Balkan trip, but being dumb and in love made me say okay.

We kept fighting due to the friction of me not actually wanting to be there among other things (he’s a very inexperienced traveller where I have quite a bit of experience under my belt, but have never travelled with anyone before) and it ended up with us breaking up. We still ended up going to the same places though, and kept running into each other. Then I got sick (chickenpox+a kidney infection) and it’s all just been a mess. I’ve run into credit card and money issues as well, with my card getting skimmed and blocked all while WU doesn’t seem to work.

I finally got to a place he’s not (as he got a vomunteer spot in my so far favorite place... Can’t go back there now) but I’m just completely exhausted and introverted. I have some friends here, but they’ve gotten understandably tired of my low energy.

My question is, how do I turn this trip around when the last two months have been a single, drawn out nightmare? Can I even at this point? I have enough money left to comfortably travel for another month (I am in San Pedro La Laguna, Guatemala, for reference) in a country that’s relatively cheap (so Costa Rica for example is quite out of the question at the moment) but both Nicaragua and El Salvador seem a bit unsafe at the moment, and Honduras seems to be mostly for diving which I don’t do.

Should I just admit defeat at this point and go home to rebuild my life (we live together and stuff so it’s a complete rebuild) or can I make something good out of this? Does anyone have any advice at all?

Also, I know I’ve been an idiot about everything. Being stupidly in love made me do all sorts of idiotic things. Save the salt please, I don’t need it right now. Thanks.
