First solo travel - loving every moment, but feeling intense loneliness.
This is night two of my trip to Tokyo, Japan. I've been having the time of my life. Everything from riding the subway, to eating amazing food, to playing at the arcades, has been extremely fun. This city is so unique and different from home.
The bad thing is that I feel extra isolated and lonely. I don't know any Japanese so even at the convenience store the best I can do is nod and smile when they say sentences at me. Being in huge crowded bars or crowded street corners is extra lonely when I'm the only American, alone. I wish I could talk to someone but of the dozens and dozens I've approached (both local and foreign none spoke English). It's a very weird type of loneliness that's both sobering and haunting.
Had anyone else felt my mix of excitement and loneliness? I write this all in the middle of the night unable to sleep with my thoughts.
